For many, LEGO is a childhood toy that brings back memories of sprawling out on the floor and being mesmerized as you built a multi-colored masterpiece. It’s a great way to improve math and engineering skills in adults while also expressing their creativity.
Lego Ideas, a program operated by the toy maker allows fans to turn their ideas into Lego sets. Anyone can submit an idea and if a group of 10,000 fellow Lego builders like it, the company will consider making it a reality. This is exactly what occurred when Angus MacLane, who works as an animator, storyboard artist, and director for Pixar, designed a LEGO version of the character from the dystopian film. The set is currently on sale and is a perfect replica of the adorable character.
Another set that came to life through the Lego Ideas process is the massive mech from Voltron: Defender of the Universe. It’s made for advanced builders and is packed with cool features, like the pilot’s hands that move and delta wings that open and close, and the possibility of a nose that can be positioned.
Typically, sets only stay available for a period of two to three years. Then they are replaced with a new model. This one is an exceptional example: a design developed by brothers Marc and Nick Parsons, based on the Back to the Future tree house, was so popular in 2022, when it first came out, that it has entered its fourth year of being on shelves without any sign of slowing down.
